Department

a. About Department

The Department of English has been functioning since the inception of the institute 1967. It is one of the oldest departments with currently three full time teachers and two CHB teachers. Mr. Sudhakar Deshpande was the first pioneer head of the department. The department offers Compulsory English course at B. A. B. Com. & B. Sc. and Optional English Course at B. A. Prof. A. C. Vaidya took the charge of the headship and contributed not only to the department but also to the whole institute as well. After his retirement, the next senior faculty from the department Mr. G. P. Mupkalwar was shouldering the responsibility of the head of the department along with associated staff viz. Mr. P. U. Dhumale, Mr. S. C. Jain and Mr. D. K. Dabhadkar. In the year 2005, Mr. S. S. Dodal joined to the department with the retirement of Mr. Dhumale, Mr. S. S. Dodal took charge of the headship of the department. Dr. Sachin Patki and Mr. T. R. Hapgunde joined to the department as senior faculty since 2010. Dr. Sachin Patki took the charge of headship on 26/11/2019. Currently three full time faculty and Two CHB faculties are working in the department. Dr. Sachin Patki and Dr. T. R. Hapgunde have been recognized as Research Supervisors by Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded and currently one student is awarded their Ph. D. degree and five research scholars are working under their guidance. The department holds an excellent record of good results and various activities like certificate course, guest lecture, class seminars, remedial classes, Cinematic presentation are conducted through department to instil the love of literature. The faculties have developed E-content and published the same through the e-platforms like YouTube, Facebook and WhatsApp.

b. Aims and Objectives of the Department

  • To eradicate the fear of English language from the psyche of the students.
  • To make them familiar with English language and its need in today’s phase.
  • To gain knowledge of specific literary forms in the genres of poetry, dramatic literature and prose fiction.
  • To acquire familiarity with the historical and theoretical development of British, American and other literatures.
  • To develop insight into ways class, religion, race, gender and sexuality inform literary works and reader or audience reactions.
  • To build the English language proficiency among the rural English Language Learners.
  • To Prepare the English Learners to qualify competitive examinations.
  • To train the students to write creative literature.
  • To introduce the rural English language learners the arena of classic literature.
  • To equip students with skills like interpretation of literature.

c. Course Outcomes

  • Through the close study of texts, students will develop knowledge, understanding and skills in order to communicate effectively in English.
  • Learners will be acquiring the skill of using English for media and electronic communication.
  • The ability to communicate and interpret written texts shall be augmented.
  • To create literary text in a variety of literary genres that demonstrates an ability to apply literary techniques and discriminate among aesthetic values.
  • To produce students with advanced skills in writing, reading and reasoning that will enable them to enter the work force directly or via professional or graduate schools.
  • Learners will be able to acquire written and oral skills of language.
  • Learners will understand and learn different forms of literature in English.
  • Analyse the text in a variety of the critical perspectives.
  • Through responding to different texts of prose fiction, the learners will acquaint themselves with the wide range of expressions in the English language.
  • Through responding to different poetic texts, the learners will acquaint themselves with the various nuances of poetic expressions in the English language.
  • Learners will be able to appreciate English Non-fictional prose with an understanding of various prose writings as developed through the ages.
  • Through responding to different texts of Indian Writing in English the learners will acquaint themselves with the wide range of expressions in the Indian English language.
  • The learners will identify, explicate and respond to key themes and elements in American literature in various literary genres.
  • The students will be familiarized with the significant socio-cultural issues in India through close reading of literary texts from diverse regions.
  • Learners will be able to understand the historical background of the canons of the Western Literary Criticism.

d. Future Plans -

  • To organize the Certificate and Value-Added Courses.
  • To organize the Guest Lectures of Eminent Personalities.
  • To develop the Language Laboratory.
  • To establish the MoUs with different institutions and organizations and undertake the various activities.
  • To develop some innovative material for students to overcome their basic errors and build confidence in communication and soft skills.
