a. About Department (History) –

Department Of Marathi was established in July 1967. Prof. D.N. Matekar was the first pioneer head of the department and had introduced “Marathi Literature” as one of the optional & second language Subject for degree classes and Yashwant Manohar well known poet with Shri Matekar. His tenure was of only one year. Then became the head and contributed a lot not only to the department but also to the whole institution. After his retirement, the next senior faculty from the department Prof. V. D. Doifode he makes head of department was shouldering the responsibility of the head of the department along with associated staff viz. Dr. C.B Vyavhare joined in the Marathi department after retirement of Dr. Doifode Dr. Vyavhare became head of department. Then Prof. V.T. Vaidya joined in the department. After retirement of V.D. Doifode Prof. V.T. Vaidya became head of department. And Dr. S.G. Jadhav newly join in the department in the year 2005. Prof. V.T. Vaidya is a well-known Marathi poet in the Maharashtra. After retirement of Prof. V. T. Vaidya, Dr. S.G. Jadhav became head of the department.  Four teacher of junior college was working in the department of Marathi. Currently one fulltime faculty and four C.H.B. faculties are working in the department and Two junior Faculties are working in the Department.

b. Aims and Objectives of the Department–

  • To build the Marathi language proficiency among the rural Marathi language learners.
  • To prepare the Marathi language & Marathi grammar learners to qualify competitive examinations.
  • To train the student to write creative literature in Marathi language.
  • To introduce the rural Marathi language learners the arena of classic literature.
  • To equip students with skills like interpretation of Marathi literature.

c. Course Outcomes

  • Through the close study of texts, students will develop knowledge, understanding and skills in order to communicate effectively in Marathi.
  • Learners will be acquiring the skill of using Marathi for print media and electronic communication.
  • To create literary text in a variety of literary genres that demonstrates an ability to apply literary techniques and discriminate among aesthetic values.
  • To produce students with advanced skills in writing, reading and reasoning that will enable them to enter the work force directly or via professional or graduate schools.
  • Students will be able to acquire written and oral skills of language.
  • Students will understand and learn different forms of literature in Marathi.
  • Analyze the text in a variety of the critical perspectives.
  • Through responding to different texts of prose fiction, the learners will acquaint themselves with the wide range of expressions in the Marathi language.
  • Through responding to different poetic texts, the learners will acquaint themselves with the various nuances of poetic expressions in the Marathi language.
  • Through responding to different texts of Writing in Marathi the learners will acquaint themselves with the wide range of expressions in the Marathi language.
  • Students will be able to understand the historical background of the Marathi Literature and Criticism.

d. Future Plans -

  • To develop the language laboratory.
  • To establish research Centre at Marathi department.
  • To organize the guest lectures.
  • To prepare the Marathi language and Marathi Grammar learners to qualify competitive examinations.
  • To develop some innovative material for students to overcome their basic errors and build confidence in communication and soft skills in Marathi language.
  • To organize the certificate course (COC).
  • To establish the MoUs with different institutions and organizations.
  • To train the student to write creative literature in Marathi language.

SWOC ANALYSIS –

  • Strength:
  • A. in Marathi is available with the department.
  • The department has a well-qualified teaching faculties with long research experience.
  • Considering the role and importance of Marathi as a local and language of the state, the department tries to impart effective career-oriented courses and Marathi as a second language

 

  • Weakness:
  • No availability of research Centre for Marathi language and literature.
  • No faculty recruitment since 2012 as per state government policy. So, the department has no adequate full-time faculty for teaching-learning and evaluation. So, at present, the department is run with the help of the clock-hour basis (CHBs) faculties.
  • No language lab for effective Marathi language teaching-learning.

 

 

  • Opportunities:
  • To collect and edit the folk literature in the form of folksongs, folktales and Marathi devotional poetry available in Marathi in Hingoli district.
  • To equip and empower degree students preparing for UPSC/MPSC with Marathi grammar and literature to quality exams like MPSC/UPSC.
  • To introduce research Centre for Marathi subject.
  • To preserve and promote the spoken dialects of Marathi and Marathi language as envisioned by the NEP-2020.

 

  • Challenges:
  • To increase the employment quotient of Marathi language as English and Hindi preferred to Marathi due to career opportunities.
  • To promote professional creative writing skills among the students and render them employable and entertainment industry ready.
  • To promote students’ interest and love for Marathi literature and creative writing to preserve it in the changing times.
  • To design and deliver employment building COC’s in Marathi language and literature.
