Department of NSS:

Introduction:

The National Service Scheme is central sector scheme of Government of India under Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. It provides opportunity to student of graduate and post graduate at Colleges and University level in India to take part in various Government led community service activities and programs. The aim of the NSS is to provide hands on experience to UG students in delivering community services.It is established in the year 1969.The number of student strength increased from 40000 to over 3.8 million in all over the India. The NSS volunteers would have the exposure and experience to be an accomplished social leader, effective administrator and a person who understands human nature.

History:

The NSS Department in our Institute is established in the year 1969. Various programs and camps are organised in the region of Hingoli district.The programme officers who worked for NSS were Dr.J.M.Mantri, Dr.V.R.Madlapure, Mr.D.N.Kele, Dr.P.D.Achole, Mr.S.T.Agrawal, Dr.S.A.Kulkarni, Dr.V.B.Aghav, Dr.A.D.Kadam, Dr.P.T.Gangasagar, Dr.R.R.Pimpalpalle andMr.A.K.Pathan.

Objectives:

  1. Enable the volunteer to interact with fellow.
  2. Experience the tradition, custom, culture, language of all states in India.
  3. Provide a chance to develop overall personality of the student volunteers.
  4. To provide a sound environment conducive towards motivating large numbers of young people of India to join armed forces.
  5. Constitute the bond of patriotism, national integration, brotherhood and communal harmony.
  6. Make the volunteers aware of the various festivals celebrated in the country.
  7. Provides knowledge about cultural diversity of the country.
  8. Provide chance to interact with resource person, speaker, youth icon etc.
  9. Enhance leadership qualities, fraternity, team spirit and risk-taking capacity.
  10. Inculcate the soft skills like hard work, devotion, caring nature, presence of mind, respect to elders etc.

Duration:

Duration for each NSS Volunteers is continuous 2 years at graduate level. The work hours are about 120 per year and total 240 hours.

Activities under NSS:

  1. Special Annual camp is organised at adopted village with the aim of conservation of nature and natural resources and cleanliness drive at village and duration of each camp is 7 days.
  2. The National Integration camp is organised every year.
  3. The Disaster Management Camp is organised every year.
  4. Republic Day Celebration and student volunteer received opportunity to participate.
  5. National Youth Festival organised every year.
  6. Celebration of various days and birth anniversary of freedom fighters and social leaders.
  7. Organisation of blood donation camps.
  8. Celebration of yoga day.
  9. Plantation activity.
  10. Cleanliness drive.
  11. Health camps.
  12. Social awareness rallies.
  13. HIV/AIDS awareness.
  14. Women's empowerment activities.
  15. Water harvesting and conservation activities.
  16. Environment awareness and conservation of natural resources.

Current Achievement:

  1. College received District Green Champion Award from Mahatma Gandhi National Council for Rural Education.
