DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY

a. About Department (History) –

The Department of Botany has a rich and glorious legacy. It was established in the year 1968. Dr. J. M. Mantri was the first Head of the Department. In the year 1971, Mrs. S. D. Dabhadkar and Dr. A. L. Vaidya joined to the Department. With the outstanding performance, Dr. J. M. Mantri became the Principal of our College in 1975. Dr. A. L. Vaidya was awarded his Ph.D. degree in 1976. He was also recognized guide for Ph.D. degree.

The Department is recognized as a Research Centre by Marathwada University, Aurangabad and then after SRTM University, Nanded. Under the able supervision of Department, a Botanical Garden developed in the Campus. In January 2001, the Department organized Regional Conference on Biodiversity. In 2001, Dr. J. M. Mantri retired and Mrs. S. D. Dabhadkar presided as the Head of the Department. Under the guidance of Dr. A. L. Vaidya, 03 Students were awarded with Ph.D. degree. Dr. A. L. Vaidya co-authored the well-known reference book "Flora of Marathwada". Dr. A. L. Vaidya took charge as a Principal of our college in 2003. Mrs. S. D. Dabhadkar superannuated in 2004.

In 2006, Dr. N. S. Solanke joined to Senior College. With the retirement of Dr. A. L. Vaidya in 2008, Dr. N. S. Solanke took over the charge of H.O.D. The Department introduced the C.O.C. in Sericulture sanctioned by UGC in 2009-10 and conducted successfully.

Dr. S. S. Nagarkar joined to Department in the year 2011. The Department hosted Two-Days National Conference on Conservation of Medicinal Plants and their Utilization during 9 th & 10 th December 2013. In 2016, Dr. N. S. Solanke was completed the Minor Research Project sanctioned by the UGC. With the retirement of Dr. N. S. Solanke in May 2022, Dr. S. S. Nagarkar became Head of the Department. From academic year 2022-2023, New Post Graduate Course M. Sc. is introduced.

On 21 st August 2023, Dr. Sopan N. Kharat joined in the Department as an Assistant Professor.

Dr. Sonalkumar S. Nagarkar is recognized PG Teacher and Research Supervisor by Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded.  Currently, 03 Faculties from other colleges are associated as a research supervisor along with Dr. S. S. Nagarkar. Our department is known for its conducting curricular and co-curricular activities regularly. The department holds an excellent record of good result and conducts various activities like certificate course, guest lecture, class seminars, remedial classes, Power-point presentations etc. The faculties have developed E-content and published the same through the e-platforms like YouTube, Google Classroom, WhatsApp and various research sites.
