a. About Department (History) –

The Department of Commerce is one of the Core department of the institute having two full time faculty members, three clock hour basis teachers and two on contract basis specializing in multiple areas of the discipline with a concrete and expanding body of research and publications. Since 1967, it has imbibed the tradition of exploring new frontiers of knowledge and innovation in academics. Dr. S. K. Mohgaonkar was the pioneer head of the department. After the retirement of Dr. S. K. Mohgaonkar the department was worked under the headship of Mr. V. B. Purohit, Mr. P. S. Tiwari, Mr. J. C. Saha, Dr. D. R. Sawalkar, Dr. B. B. Lakshete respectively. Currently, the department is working under the headship of Dr. A. B. Gattani.

The department, keeping in view the changing needs has been organizing workshops, seminar, PowerPoint presentation and other research programs for the overall growth of the students.

As a part of the text development activity of the department, the faculty members have published more than 50 Research articles in the professional journals and magazines. In the field of text book writing and publication the faculty of the department has shown keen interest in writing 03 books. The faculties have developed E-content and published the same through the e-platforms like YouTube, Facebook and WhatsApp. Currently the department admits students for B. COM and M. COM.

b. Aims and Objectives of the Department–

  1. Academic Excellence: Our primary objective is to enable every student to cope up with the latest developments in National and Global level through effective transaction of the curricular and co-curricular aspects.
  2. Professional Excellence: The department motivates moulds and prepare the students for positions of Leadership in business organizations at the local, national and international levels.
  3. Total Commitment: The department is focused on the all-round development of the student’s personality through proper education and exposure to the vast treasure of knowledge, sports facilities and by providing Platforms for their socialization.
  4. Socially Responsible Citizen: Department inculcates a sense of civic responsibility, social commitment and moral accountability among the students through social activities with exposure to human rights, Value system, culture and environment.
  5. Value Based Development: To impart quality and need based education our objective is to sensitize the students to their changing roles in society through awareness raising activities .
  6. Research view: Develop entrepreneurship and research view through innovative and healthy Practices with commitment .

c. Course Outcomes

  1. The Course would be able to acquire basic and fundamental knowledge and skills for doing business and commercial activities of their choice.
  2. The program also empowers the graduates to appear for various competitive exams or choose a profession of their choice such as CA, CS, ICWA, etc.
  3. The program enables the students to acquire the accounting knowledge, management principles, retail trading, banking and insurance transactions, business economics and financial management.
  4. The students also acquire knowledge in the field of management accounting, corporate accounting, statistical and mathematical techniques and knowledge relating to corporate law and business laws.
  5. The students become capable of doing a business of their choice or choosing a profession or can become employees having basic knowledge and skill required for such activities.

d. Future Plans -

  • To develop the Accounting Laboratory.
  • To start Incubation Centre for Entrepreneurial Skill Development.
  • To establish the MOUs with different institutions and Business organizations for
  • Students Internship and Placements.
  • To organize the Certificate and Value-Added Courses through online and offline mode.
  • To organize investment awareness and tax planning programmes for students.
  • To start multidisciplinary job-oriented courses.

e. Achievements

  • We have started English Medium B. com. From the year 2017-18
  • We have started CA/ CS foundation course at zero cost bases since 2017-18 till date more than 20 students cleared said exams.
  • Pooja Jaiswal got university 2nd rank in M. com in the year 2017-18
  • Prajakta Mahajan has got 1st rank in Advance accounting in university exam 2017-18
  • Dnyneshwar Ghumnar student of B. Com II has passed the examination of District Court Clerk, in December 2018
  • Madav Kabra got 100 Marks in Financial Accounting in university exam summer 2023.
  • More than 7 students are placed with Business Organization having MOUs with department.
